GLOSSARY
The operator's glossary.
Plain-English definitions of the terms owner-operated med spas (single-location + small chain) actually run into. Free reference, no signup.
MRR (monthly recurring revenue)
Predictable monthly revenue from memberships and recurring plans — the base a spa builds on before any new marketing.
Membership LTV
Lifetime value of a member: per-member monthly value times average lifetime times gross margin. Retention moves it more than any single promotion.
Churn
The rate members cancel per month. Lifetime scales inversely with churn, so small reductions compound into large LTV gains.
Speed to lead
Time from an inquiry (often an Instagram DM) to first reply. Fast, owner-reviewed replies win consults before the lead cools.
No-show recovery
The process of re-booking consults and appointments that don't show — a direct, recoverable revenue leak.
Consult conversion
The share of consults that book a treatment or membership — the hinge metric between marketing spend and revenue.
Medical director
The supervising physician accountable for clinical oversight. Anything clinical — symptoms, side effects — escalates to them, never to a workflow.
Scope of practice
State rules defining what each provider may perform. Owner-side tools surface the configured scope; they never interpret licensure.
HIPAA-light boundary
The discipline of processing only owner-ops metadata (bookings, marketing) and never patient PHI or clinical notes in operational tooling.
Before/after consent
Recorded patient permission required before using imagery in marketing; a consent flag gates any such content.
Retention / recall
Bringing members and past clients back on schedule (e.g. tox every 3–4 months) — the quiet driver of med-spa revenue.
Add-on spend
Revenue beyond the base membership (products, upgrades) per member per month — a major component of true per-member value.
Adverse event
Any negative treatment reaction. It escalates to a human (owner or medical director) immediately; no automated patient-facing reply is sent.
