- Ohio Admin. Code 4731-18-03, "Delegation of the use of light based medical devices for specified non-ablative procedures" (State Medical Board of Ohio), effective 2023-04-30. As read, it permits a physician to delegate vascular laser application for non-ablative dermatologic procedures to a physician assistant, registered nurse or licensed practical nurse if conditions are met, including: the device is specifically cleared or approved by the FDA for the procedure; for RNs and LPNs the physician provides on-site supervision at all times and supervises no more than two delegates at once; and prescribed training (eight hours of basic education, observation of 15 procedures per laser type, and performance of 20 procedures under direct physician oversight per laser type). The delegate must immediately report any clinically significant side effect for prompt physician evaluation.
