18 Va. Admin. Code 18VAC85-20-91, "Practice and supervision of laser hair removal" (Virginia Board of Medicine), statutory authority Va. Code § 54.1-2400, effective 2019-08-07. As read, a doctor of medicine or osteopathic medicine may perform or supervise laser hair removal after completing training covering skin physiology and histology, skin type and patient selection, laser safety, device operation, complication recognition and response, and a minimum of 10 proctored patient cases across various skin types; physicians performing laser hair removal before 2019-08-07 are exempt from that training requirement. A doctor may delegate laser hair removal to a properly trained person under the doctor's "direction and supervision," meaning the doctor is "readily available at the time laser hair removal is being performed"; the doctor must see and evaluate any patient whose treatment has resulted in complications before treatment continues. 18VAC85-20-91 as read requires the supervising physician to see and evaluate a patient whose laser hair removal has resulted in complications before treatment continues. IT DOES NOT ESTABLISH A GOOD FAITH EXAM RULE FOR ANY OTHER SERVICE, AND TELEHEALTH ACCEPTABILITY IS NOT VERIFIED.
